Umpiring is a key facet in the game of cricket. Even in high-profile T20 leagues like IPL, Umpires are under immense pressure to deliver the goods. Over the years, umpiring in the IPL has been under scrutiny for various decisions that have affected the result of the match. In the intense context of the IPL where every game carries significant stakes, errors tend to swiftly grab the spotlight. Being a cash-rich league, just like players even the umpires are paid a hefty amount to perform their job in a high-pressure environment. Here’s a detailed look at the umpire salary in IPL 2025.
Umpire Salary in IPL 2025
Umpires in the Indian Premier League are paid according to their category. To ensure high standards in umpiring, BCCI has inducted umpires from the ICC Elite Panel to perform the umpiring duties throughout the league. However, there are a few domestic umpires who are trained and given exposure to the high-intensity environment. They are put under the bracket of ‘Development Umpire’. So, an IPL umpire can be either an Elite Panel Umpire or a Development Umpire.
The base salary for an umpire in the Elite Panel is nearly ₹3,00,000 per match in IPL 2025. This amount was increased in the last IPL edition wherein umpires were paid around ₹1,98,000 previously. The umpires in the elite panel are also offered an additional stipend of ₹25,000 per match in the IPL. As per a report, elite umpires can earn up to an average of ₹45-50 lakh in an IPL season. For development umpires, their umpire salary per match in IPL is around ₹2,00,000. However, there’s no additional payout for development umpires apart from their fixed pay per match in the season.
Sponsorships Earnings for Umpires in IPL 2025

An umpire can even increase his/her IPL salary via the sponsorship deals in every season. Various companies offer sponsorships to find a place on an umpire’s shirt in the IPL. A certain sum from those deals is also given to the umpires. Wonder Cement has been the official sponsor of umpires in the 2025 edition of the IPL replacing Paytm which held the role in earlier seasons. In the 2025 edition, each umpire was given a sponsorship cheque of around ₹8.5 lakh along with their earned salaries. This amount was considerably high compared to the previous edition wherein umpires were given ₹7.33 lakh for the season, and much higher than the earlier per‑match sponsorship of ₹5,000.
